Argentine poet and artist (born in Bessarabia, Russia in 1898 to Jewish parents; immigrated to Argentina in 1902) who in 1923 joined the modernist group Martin Fierro. Primarily known for his writing, Fijman began publishing his work in 1919. He converted to Catholicism in the late 1920s when affected by a deep religious crisis. Throughout the 1930s, he became increasingly impoverished, playing the violin to support himself. In 1942 Fijman was admitted to the asylum of Jose Borda in Buenos Aires...
